The Thinkery offers innovative camps with hands-on activities that spark curiosity and inspire learning of science,technology, engineering, art, math and more.

Thinkery camps occur through the summer, June-August 2014. Half Day Camps are held weekdays, 8 am-12 pm, or 1-5 pm (note: the same camp occurs at both sessions each day). Full Day Camps are held weekdays, 9 am-5 pm.

Half day camps are offered to children in Pre-K and Kindergarten. Children must be four years old by the first day of camp. Full day camps that include field trips are open to children in 1st through 5th grade.

Summer Camps 2014

For Summer Camps, grade level refers to the grade the child has just graduated (e.g. 3rd grade means exiting the 3rd grade).

Together we will turn our eyes to the farthest st
ars in the universe and dive into the deepest depths of the sea as we explore all the wonders of the world.

Toy Design   June 16-20 (All Kids), July 28- Aug 1 (AM Session Girls Only, PM Session All Kids)
Learn about the design and invention of many classic and creative toys, while creating some of your own new favorite toys.

Messy Masterpieces   June 23-27, Aug 4-8
Art is creation! Place your hands in some paint and mix colors like a pro as we learn about famous artist and the tools and methods they utilize to make masterpieces.

Dino Mania   June 30-July 3*, Aug 11-15
Travel back to a prehistoric time with tons of activities, stories, songs, 
skill-builders and games centered on the ancient creatures you love.

Explore your World   July 7-11, Aug 18-22
Ants, snot, sound waves, and light, we are surrounded by so many incredible things each day. Together we will take a closer look at all our senses can explore.

Big and Small   July 14-18
Come and investigate all the far extremes of the world, as we peer into the largest machines and magnify down into the nano-scale.

Design, invent, and build with us as we begin to understand the many important creations.

Art and Science June 23-27, Aug 4-8
Every artist utilizes chemistry, biology, engineering, physics, and math. Create new art as we explore the science behind the colors.

Rocky Science June 30-July 3*, Aug 11-15
Investigate how geology, paleontology, and sustainability rocks, as we excavate the treasures of ages past.

Start your engines as we explore all things that can go, from the fastest machines to the human body.

1st-2nd grade (Full day Tech Camp, no field trips)

Lions, Tigers and Robots – Oh My! July 14-18
Join the team of digital zookeepers and robot wranglers as we explore the animal world in a whole new way. Build and program a robot to slither like a snake. Design and create a robotic dolphin that can echolocate to find fish. Campers will learn how to program sensors, motors and robots to create their own robotic animal. Come on this safari adventure with us!

 

3rd-5th grade (Full day camp, with field trips)

Time Travelers June 9-13, July 21-25
Jump in the time machine as we travel back in time to learn about amazing scientists and inventors and recreate their discoveries and contraptions. 

Engineer Works  June 16-20 (Girls Only), July 28- Aug 1 (All Kids)
Gather in teams to tackle real-world challenges, all while honing creative problem solving and critical thinking skills.

smART June 23-27, Aug 4-8
Emerging artists will love creating masterful works of art while exploring the science involved in artistic processes.

Can You Dig It? June 30-July 3*, Aug 11-15
Explore the world beneath our feet as we dig into paleontology and the ancient stories that the earth can tell us.

Science of Sports July 7-11, Aug 18-22
In the ball that bounces and the gymnast that flips, all facets of science control the games we enjoy. Join us as we learn about and play the sports we hold dear.

Secret Scientists July 14-18
Discover the secret science used every day in Austin!  You’ll experiment with sound, color, food science and machines as we explore what makes Austin so unique!

3rd- 5th grade (Full day Tech Camp, no field trips)

Program, Animate and Create July 21-25
Design games and create your own animations using Scratch, a computer programming language made for kids. Campers will create game controllers, program sensors and motors to construct a Rube Goldberg Device, and work on many other creative projects using technology! New challenges and old favorites will keep experienced and novice programmers entertained. Don’t just play the game – make the game!

Animal Adaptations June 23-27, July 7-11
Budding biologists will study amazing animal adaptations from all around the world in this all new class. Why do frogs start out as tadpoles? How do bats forage for food in total darkness? Learn about a shrimp that can see many more colors than humans. Using motors and touch, color and infrared sensors, campers will design and build robotic animals that adapt to environmental challenges!

 

Spring and Summer Camp FAQ
