The City of Austin announced today (Friday, July 23) that the city and Travis County are re-entering Stage 4 due to the increase in COVID-19 cases, primarily due to the Delta variant. (To view the city’s COVID-19 risk-based guidelines, click here)
Thinkery remains committed to keeping our visitors safe while they play and learn at the museum. In light of the City’s announcement, we’d like to remind everyone of our guidelines for protecting the health of our visitors and staff.
Given the large number of children that we serve, as well as the percentage of unvaccinated adults and teens in our service area, Thinkery requires masks for all staff and visitors older than 24 months. We will continue to operate our general admission sessions at limited capacity to ensure social distancing can be comfortably achieved.
If you or any member of your group are not able to wear a mask for any reason, we invite you to reschedule your visit for a future date when these requirements are no longer in place.
It is important to note that current CDC guidelines for going mask-free in public settings only apply to fully vaccinated people. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, only 61.98% of Travis County residents age 12+ are currently fully vaccinated (the percentages are lower in surrounding counties).
We are all looking forward to being able to greet our guests mask-free and to see the smiles on kids’ faces as they explore and play in our galleries. In the meantime, we appreciate your understanding, your desire to help protect our still-unvaccinated and vulnerable neighbors, and your willingness to help us set a good example for children who do still need to wear a mask because they’re not yet vaccine eligible.
