Claylene prepping for a party!

Each month the Thinkery blog highlights one of our amazing volunteers and their fantastic work at the Thinkery. This month we feature Claylene, who has been volunteering with us since January!

Claylene has been essential to the Thinkery’s Seriously Fun Birthday Party program success. Not only has she volunteered to assist in many birthday party celebrations, she is the founding member of our newly formed Wednesday Birthday Party Prep Team. Claylene and the team preps for roughly 32-36 parties a weekend; that’s a lot of freezing dinosaurs for excavation, prepping rocket parts for take off, updating curriculum for Thinkery Educators, and stocking plates, cups and napkins for the big birthday cake and song moments. The Birthday Party Program is so thankful for Claylene’s  hard work, easygoing attitude, and big smiles.  Her dedication to the Thinkery makes  hundreds of children have a very happy every weekend! Thanks SO much for everything, Claylene! Below are a few of her responses to our Volunteer Spotlight questionnaire-

How long have you been volunteering here?
I have been volunteering at The Thinkery since January.  I started volunteering at birthday parties and enjoyed it so much I also volunteered to assist Juliet Whitsett with party preparation during the week. I’ve also volunteered in the Kitchen Lab, which was fun as well as educational.

Why did you want to volunteer at the Thinkery?
The Thinkery staff is extremely nice and appreciative of all the volunteers efforts, so it makes volunteering there a pleasure. I am retired and The Thinkery is a wonderful way to serve the community and have fun at the same time.

What is your all-time favorite thing to do on your time off?
I love traveling, movies, good books, my dog Gus and volunteering at The Thinkery.

Thanks Claylene for all your hard work. In addition, this week is National Volunteer Week, so we’re celebrating all our amazing volunteers! Thanks to all our individual volunteers, volunteer groups, interns, and Museum Career Ladder students for all that you do! For information on Volunteering, check out our Volunteer Page.
