Circuits 3rd-5th Grade
Focused Field Trips is a program that engages groups of up to 25 students in deeper investigation of STEAM concepts. Each 90-minute program is TEKS-aligned and offers lots of hands-on and minds-on exploration to promote critical thinking and effective collaboration.
Explore our maker lab, Space 8, where students learn the basics of circuitry, and answer questions such as how does electricity flow? How can you power multiple devices? Students have the opportunity to apply their new knowledge while exploring materials such as LEDs, insulators, conductors and more. Students create their own personalized paper circuit card.
To request a Thinkery Focused Field Trip, please submit a request form. We will contact you to confirm your tour date and time based on our availability. In addition, you will receive an invoice for the student Focused Field Trip admissions, which must be paid 30 days prior to your visit.

Focused Field Trips are made possible by the generous support of:
Can I bring my group at a different time?
Due to the nature of our schedule, we are unable to allow Focused Field Trips to start at different times. If a group arrives early for their program, groups will need to wait until their assigned start time and for a Thinkery Staff member to bring them in. If a group arrives late, we will not be able to extend the program, but we will do our best to accommodate as much as we can with the remaining time. We adhere to our schedule, therefore groups must arrive and depart on time.
Can my group explore the museum before/after their Focused Field Trip?
Focused Field Trips take place exclusively in Space 8. This experience does not include access to other exhibits, the climber, or museum store. Guided tours may be scheduled in addition to a Focused Field Trip, space permitting.
How do I pay for my Focused Field Trip?
Payment can be in the form of a check written to Thinkery, credit card, or Purchase Order. We accept VISA, MasterCard, and American Express. Contact the Reservations Coordinator at 512-469-6201 to make a payment by credit card. The reservationist hours are from 9:00-5:00 p.m. Due to high volume of calls please leave a message and our Reservations Coordinator will get back to you shortly.
Can I make changes to my group numbers after I’ve scheduled my Focused Field Trip?
Changes can be made to the group size prior to the 30 day payment due date by contacting the Community Education Manager, Brenda Lopez at firstname.lastname@example.org or 512-469-6207. A new invoice will be sent with the updated amount due. Changes may not be made after the 30 day payment due date. Groups with fewer students than reserved will receive general admission tickets to the Thinkery (one ticket for each student that is paid for, but is not attending.)
How many adults should I bring with my group?
We require one adult for every five students in the group. Teachers and chaperones engage and assist students with their work.
What is the cost for chaperones?
While school teachers receive free admission to Thinkery, chaperones pay $5.00, which covers admission.
Although Thinkery Member benefits do not apply to the Focused Field Trip program, we do extend the courtesy of one free chaperone admission for the member cardholder.
Chaperones should proceed upstairs to the Reservations window (located in the Thinkery Administrative Offices) to pay admission and receive a chaperone badge.
Can my group have lunch at the Thinkery?
Thinkery does not have an onsite location for groups to eat lunch. If you are interested in a picnic lunch, we recommend using one of the nearby city parks on either side of the Mueller Neighborhood, Patterson Park off of Airport Blvd or Bartholomew Park off of 51st St.
Mueller Lake Park, located directly across the street from Thinkery, is a neighborhood park overseen by the Mueller development.Inquires should be sent to the Mueller Central office at email@example.com.
Unfortunately, we are unable to address last minute lunch related logistical concerns.
Is the Focused Field Trip relevant to the TEKS?
Yes, it relates to various science, technology, engineering, art, and/or math K-5 TEKS. For more information, check out our TEKS and Thinkery Exhibits Reference Guide.
