How many students can I bring during a Self-Guided Field Trip?
We have a max capacity of 60 students per time slot-9:30 am, 10:30 am, 11:30 am, and 12:30 pm.
Are there any visit restrictions?
Due to capacity, Let’s Grow may not be available for Summer Self-Guided Exploration.
How many adults should I bring with my group? Are they required to pay?
During the summer, Thinkery requires 1 adult chaperone for every 8 students; Chaperones within the 1:8 ratio will receive complimentary admission. Additional chaperones (more than 1:8) and siblings will be charged $10 each and will be purchased on the day of the visit.
Chaperones must be teachers, school staff with district identification, parents, or other adults over the age of 18 accompanying the group.
For example, a school bringing 50 students should also bring 7 adults. These required 7 adults (which includes teachers and parents) will receive free admission. If the group brings more than 7 adults, those adult chaperones will pay $10 each.
What happens when we arrive?
Thinkery staff will greet you on the buses to collect the total number of students and chaperones attending and will provide the lead teacher with the chaperone badges and a map of activities. The lead teacher will check-in communicate departure time to the Thinkery staff, bus drivers, and chaperones.
All chaperones will receive a map of activities for their exploration. Each chaperone will receive a set of five stickers to place on the students back.
Once check-in is complete, please unload the students from the bus and evenly divide the students with their chaperones. Thinkery staff will direct your chaperones inside to begin your Self-Guided Exploration!
What do we do when we are ready to leave?
At your departure time, please meet at Group Entry with your entire group. A Thinkery staff member will lead your group outside of Group Entry upon the completion of your visit. Please return all badges to a Thinkery staff member.
What should I do if I need to locate a missing child?
Our museum staff is available to assist you within reuniting with a missing child or adult. Please provide Thinkery staff with a detailed description of the person. In the case of a missing child, our museum protocol includes monitoring the main entrance and scanning all galleries and program spaces.
Can I make changes to my date and time after I’ve scheduled a Field Trip?
Thinkery receives a high volume of requests for group visits during the summer. To ensure a fair and equitable process, changes to field trip dates and time reservations are limited. If you must make changes to your reserved date and time, first cancel your existing reservation. Use the web form to request a new field trip time and/or date. Once availability is confirmed, a new $25 reservation fee will secure the new date and time. Only one $25 reservation fee will be applied toward the admission total.
Can I make changes to my student numbers after I’ve scheduled my field trip?
Changes can be made to the group size 30 days before the invoice due date by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org. A new invoice will be sent with the updated amount due. Changes cannot be made after the final payment has been received.
Groups arriving with fewer students will receive Admit One pass to Thinkery (one pass for each student that is paid for, but is not attending). Groups arriving with additional students will be charged for their tour admission.
Does the non-refundable reservation fee apply toward the tour admission total?
Yes! The reservation fee applies toward the group admission total. If groups change dates or times, only one $25 reservation fee will be applied toward the group admission total. If a group cancels, the fee is non-refundable.
Do you allow re-entry after the field trip?
For Summer Self-Guided Exploration Trips, groups can explore and play for 1.5 hours once they have checked in. We do not allow re-entry for groups once groups depart the building.
Can I visit the Thinkery Store?
Yes! We encourage you to take a memory of Thinkery home with you by visiting our museum store, which opens daily at 10 a.m. Encourage your chaperones to explore the store during the trip to avoid long lines at the end of your visit. We ask that you visit in your groups of 1:5.
Can my group have lunch at the Thinkery?
Thinkery does not have an onsite location for groups to eat lunch. If you are interested in a picnic lunch, we recommend using one of the nearby city parks on either side of the Mueller Neighborhood, Patterson Park off of Airport Blvd or Bartholomew Park off of 51st St.
In the Mueller neighborhood, please refer to Mueller Lake Park, located directly across the street from Thinkery, is a neighborhood park overseen by the Mueller development. Inquiries should be sent to the Mueller Central office at email@example.com or Northwest Greenway, on Philomena Street near Dell Children’s, with an accessible playscape and shaded picnic area.
