The following is an update from Thinkery’s CEO, Patricia Young Brown, about the extended closure of Thinkery due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
On behalf of myself and every one of us at Thinkery, we hope that you, your family, friends and loved ones are staying safe and healthy during this unprecedented crisis.
I wanted to share a brief update on conditions at Thinkery…
As you know, we closed the museum to the public on Friday, March 13 and cancelled all planned activities, programs, and Spring Break Camps through March 22. As we learn more about the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on Central Texas, it has become very clear that our closure will need to be extended.
In observance of the City of Austin’s Order of Control for Mass and Community gatherings, Thinkery will be closed until at least May 1, 2020.
We remain hopeful that we’ll be able to reopen by May 1; however, the health and safety of our staff, our guests, and the entire Austin community remain our foremost consideration. We will continue to follow the guidance of local, state and national officials and if circumstances require this closure be extended again, we will do so.
As business and public institutions at all levels take action to slow the spread of COVID-19, we recognize the impact on parents, caregivers, educators and families. We are doing all that we can to adapt our museum to meet the evolving needs of our community. Our team is actively exploring new ways to bring the Thinkery experience home and to the public, including posting activity videos and story times to our social media channels. We will be collecting all of this original content, along with links to other wonderful resources from around the internet, on our website at thinkeryaustin.org/athome.
Thinkery is a non-profit museum dedicated to in-person learning and activity, so an extended closure represents a particularly serious financial challenge to our organization. Rest assured that our focus will always be on continuing our mission of inspiring the next generation of creative problem solvers and bringing unique, STEAM-based learning opportunities to thousands of families throughout Central Texas.
We need your help to navigate this time of uncertainty at Thinkery. If you are able, please consider making a donation. We greatly appreciate your continued understanding and ongoing support throughout this crisis.
We are keeping you all in our thoughts. Together, I am confident that our organization—and our community—will find a way through these strange and difficult times.
Our Reservations team will be reaching out to any existing ticketholders and guests who have booked events or reservations that will be impacted by this closure. If you have any additional questions, please email reservations@thinkeryaustin.org.
