Goodbye summer, hello autumn!
Whew! That blistering heat is (almost) over. Fall is a fabulous time to visit Thinkery with your early learner—the summer crowds have subsided, and we’re gearing up for hands-on, seasonal STEAM programs and activities. Will you join us for some fall fun? Check out what we have lined up for this season’s Think Labs!
Take your Thinkery experience a step further with our creative and collaborative Think Labs! Every Saturday and Sunday, our Think Lab programs dive deep into innovative art and science topics—and all workshops have various session times to accommodate busy schedules. Perfect for caregivers and children 4+, these super fun activities are educator-led in a small group setting for visitors to learn and discover in a focused and cooperative environment. Learn something new together this fall!
October
Cook with your imagination in the enchanting world of culinary science. In Kitchen Lab, grab an apron and channel your inner magic in our October Think Lab, Whisks & Wizards! Adults and children will build technical cooking skills and work together to create tasty—and maybe even spooky—concoctions inspired by mystical, magical themes—and take home the recipes, too! Ages 4+.
It’s almost October… sew what? Why buy a costume this spooky season when you can make it? Find your new creative outlet in Space 8 and learn the basics of Costume Design while constructing your own spooky-inspired 3-D masks using paper templates. Ages 4+.
November
Birds of a feather investigate together! Join us in Kitchen Lab as we deconstruct owl pellets and learn about the digestion and diet of birds of prey in Owl Pellet Dissections. Participants will gain an introduction to dissections and dissection tools in this workshop, as well as insight into Ornithology (the study of birds). What a hoot! Ages 4+.
HTML. Javascript. But what about….Blockly? Introduce programming to your young learner with this color- and block-based coding language while honing some super cool storytelling skills. Participants will set the stage using robot characters and master Storytelling with Ozobots—all while becoming a digital director with basic programming. Ages 4+.
There’s no doubt about it—we’re ready for a fun, festive and family-friendly fall. Join us for a Think Lab—or two!
Think Labs are supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department. Visit Austin at NowPlayingAustin.com.
