Welcome to the blog for the Thinkery, an evolution of the Austin Children’s Museum, and Austin’s sparkling new home for “why” and “how”.
A digital extension of the Museum experience, this space is for parents, educators, kids, and the Austin community to explore cool and exciting STEAM news and activities (that’s science, technology, engineering, arts, and math!), all complementary to Thinkery exhibits and events. We’ll also regularly be giving a behind-the-scenes look at Thinkery events, programs, installations, and more. Beyond that, the Thinkery blog will explore all sorts of smart & fun events, people, and organizations within the Austin community.
The Thinkery may not be open just yet (get ready for December!), but we still have a wide range of activities going on, both within the Mueller community and beyond. Our two biggest outreach programs prior to opening include Baby Bloomers (our longstanding Monday morning program for children age 0-3 and their families to experience Thinkery activities in an environment focused on early learners, temporarily located in Mueller Lake Park), and our weekly STEAM activities for kids at a number of Austin’s wonderful Farmers’ Market (much thanks to Sustainable Food Center & Mueller Farmers’ Market!). In addition, this month we’ll be hosting a garage sale at our former Museum downtown, visiting IKEA Round Rock, and next month we’ll be prepping for our annual Gingerbread Workshops.
Stay tuned to experience the Thinkery before we even open our doors to the public! And if you have any suggestions or ideas for blog topics, or just want to tell us what you’re most excited to see at the Thinkery, please say hi to us on social media!
