At the Thinkery, we believe in our volunteers, their ideas and their impact. From individuals interested in helping out at Baby Bloomers to large groups helping us manage our huge Gingerbread Workshops in December, the efforts of our volunteers are inextricably linked to so many of the programs and events at the Thinkery.
Each month on the blog we’ve highlighted specific individuals that have volunteered their time towards making the Thinkery a unique and remarkable museum experience. This week, we’re highlighting one of our corporate groups, Dell!
Dell has played an intricate part in the development of the Thinkery, even before we opened! Teams from across their organization have volunteered their time and talents to help us with a plethora of projects, ranging from preparing materials for camps, birthdays and other programs, to lending their creative talents to help us prototype future programs and installations. Dell team members have even volunteered their time digitally by participating in our recent Twitter chats, recently discussing ways to incorporate tablets into museum experiences like field trips.
We’re grateful for all the work Dell has done for us here at the Thinkery, and we’re also glad to hear it’s a joyful experience for their teams! The 50+ team from Dell Creative spent a full day volunteering here at the museum earlier this year, and will be joining us again next week! Here’s what they had to say- “Volunteering at the Thinkery was an amazing experience for all of us. Not only was it both challenging and rewarding to help create for a first-class place where children and parents can learn and play, but we were honored to work with such an amazing team of passionate people dedicated to making science (and children) smile.”
Dell’s team is passionate about working directly with non-profit organizations around the world to close the learning gap and give young people the power to discover better possibilities. Our Board President, Dell’s Carla Pinyero Sublett had this to say about her work and Dell’s work at the Thinkery-
“At Dell we believe that technology can unleash human potential, giving people the power to do more. When you marry our purpose with Thinkery’s mission to equip and inspire the next generation of creative problem solvers through STEAM, you can see a natural fit. The need to empower our children to innovate is critical to our future, as a city and as a world.
My engagement with Thinkery started about 6 years ago and it is one of the most fulfilling journeys that I have had the honor to be a part of. I am inspired by the increased participation from our Dell employees. They come to Thinkery to give back but they also get something in return – they free their minds, dare to tinker, find their creativity and get the fulfillment of knowing that they are impacting 1000s of underserved kids. I encourage everyone to take time out of their hectic lives to be a part of Thinkery or any organization that fuels their passion.”
To all of our volunteers from a Dell, thanks for all that you’ve done and continue to do here at the Thinkery!
