Happy National Peanut Butter Day!
I’ll admit it – I didn’t know how peanuts grew till very recently. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t appreciate peanut butter for everything it is: a quick snack, chocolate’s partner in crime, a banana’s best friend, and (most importantly) delicious.
Here’s a few facts I learned about my favorite nut (or actually, legume!)
First things first: Peanuts are actually located in the root of their plant. Unlike most other plants, the peanut plant flowers above ground but the pod develops underground. Maybe you’ve had a peanut plant in your backyard this entire time! Sneaky peanuts.

But if you’re worried that your jar doesn’t contain enough peanuts – don’t worry! By law, anything labeled peanut butter must be at least 90% peanuts.

Grand Saline, Texas holds the title for world’s largest peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It weighs in at 1,342 pounds! The entire town hosts the Texas Peanut Butter Festival every year, which helps benefit the East Texas Food Bank.
