Happy World Water Day! Take a moment today to appreciate your glass of water and the fact that it’s not a mirage.
You drink it, swim in it, bathe in it, and fill balloons with it. But how much do you really know about H20?
Here are some fun facts about everyone’s favorite liquid:
1. Roughly 70 percent of an adult’s body is made up of water. Which makes us not-so-different from water balloons or even the Earth…
2. Somewhere between 70 and 75 percent of the earth’s surface is covered with water! Humans still haven’t explore all of the oceans’ depths.
3. By the time a person feels thirsty, his or her body has lost over 1 percent of its total water amount. Make sure to keep hydrated! Here in the Texas heat, we definitely appreciate our water.
4. Water isn’t always for drinking…It takes more than ten gallons of water to produce one slice of bread!
Water’s a pretty great thing, and today’s World Water Day aims to raise awareness of the link between water and energy and improving the efficiency of both. You can read more about past World Water Days here.
At the Thinkery, we have a water exhibit called Currents. Visitors explore fluid dynamics and the connections between water and sound. It’s a lot of fun, and a great way to explore hands-on aquatic stations.
Thirsty yet?
