Bicycles play an important part in Austin’s vibrant culture. Considered by many to be one of the best cities in the country to be a cyclist, bicycles can always be seen dashing around the Mueller community, from Mueller Lake Park’s hike and bike trails, to grabbing local produce at the Farmers’ Market, and (very soon!) to visiting the Thinkery! It was critical for our team at the Thinkery to make sure our new location celebrates the unique bike scene of Austin, and with help from the teams at Asterisk Group, Inc., Pavon Design, and Capital Architectural Signs, we added a new bicycle installation to the side of our building!
It may be hard to tell from a distance, but this giant bike is made from 389 pieces of painted aluminum strips! Since the side of the Thinkery building is corrugated, it was no easy task to prep the installation and make sure that every piece was placed absolutely perfectly. Asterisk posted a few images to their Facebook to give an idea of the step-by-step process:
Once all the pieces were prepared, it was time for installation. For nearly the entire day last Thursday, the team from Capital Architectural Signs was at work adhering each piece of aluminum perfectly on our building. Asterisk Group’s fantastic intern Kate Stevenson captured the installation, and her resulting video is amazing!
Next time you’re at Mueller Lake Park, or when you first come to the Thinkery when we open in December, make sure you take a closer look at this very detailed project! Thanks Asterisk Group, Inc., Pavon Design, & Capital Architectural Signs for all of your hard work on this project!
