Artist in Residence
Artist in Residence
Thinkery’s Artist in Residence (AIR) program aims to bring local, interactive art into our museum at the Meredith Learning Lab. This program invites working artists to connect with visitors through presentations of authentic art techniques using workshops, demonstrations, and open exploration.
Thinkery is seeking curious art-makers who are interested in creating interactive artwork with and for families. We encourage artists from across disciplines and identities to apply for this new program. One artist will be selected to participate in this nine-month program.
The selected artist will get to know Thinkery’s space and staff, receive teaching artist training from Thinkery’s staff, collaborate to create workshops at Thinkery in the community, and work with our exhibits team to fabricate a final interactive piece that will be installed in the museum.
Thinkery hopes to gain from working with Artists in Residence:
- Activate our museum’s interstitial spaces with interactive art installations that evoke our core values of belonging, playfulness, innovation, and collaboration.
- Innovative art-making, viewing, and interactive experiences for guest families and staff members
- Deepen the visual and storytelling connections in the museum
- Bring our community’s unique vibe to Thinkery – Meredith Learning Lab.
What Thinkery hopes to share with Artists in Residence:
- Stipend ($12,000) plus a separate budget for materials/development
- Teaching artist training program to equip artists with skills to provide hands-on learning experiences that center their medium and artistic process
- Experience developing art in response to community feedback, specifically engaging with young people and families
- Access to Thinkery’s onsite shop and fabrication team
Applications for the Artist in Residency Program are now closed, and we are beginning our selection process.
Special thanks to Riki Rushing and Allen Glimer for their generous support of Thinkery’s Artist in Residence Program.
