At Thinkery, we believe learning through play is for everyone, including young professionals shaping their futures through our Thinkery Youth Development (TYD) program. TYD provides high school students with paid workforce and leadership development opportunities, helping them build real-world skills that will serve them in any career path they choose.
What is the Thinkery Youth Development Program?
In partnership with Breakthrough Central Texas, a nonprofit that helps students become the first in their families to earn a post-secondary degree, Thinkery welcomes an annual cohort of ten high school students through the Thinkery Youth Development (TYD) program. TYD provides early job experience, mentorship, and professional development in a supportive, play-based learning environment. Participants gain hands-on experience in customer service, point-of-sale operations, and cash handling, while also building essential skills in leadership, collaboration, problem-solving, and self-advocacy— essential skills that prepare them for their futures.
Learning, Leading, and Inspiring Through Play
“I get a lot of exposure to customer service and work ethics. And I like being around a really positive environment with the kids.” – Joe, TYD Participant
For many TYD participants, this experience is more than just a job. It’s an opportunity to explore career interests, gain exposure to professional environments, and develop leadership skills while making a meaningful impact on the children they engage with every day.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the program is the opportunity to inspire young learners through STEAM-based exploration. Whether guiding kids through interactive exhibits, demonstrating how to use tools, or encouraging them to think creatively, TYD participants play a crucial role in fostering curiosity and confidence in early learners.
With each new cohort, students gain valuable skills, explore future career pathways, and grow into confident leaders. As we continue to support and work alongside these future leaders, we remain committed to fostering a community where curiosity, creativity, and lifelong learning thrive—both for the children and families who visit Thinkery and the young professionals who help bring it to life.
