STEAM Sundays: Spring into STEAM

April 19 from 11 AM–4 PM

Discover the power of STEAM through play at Thinkery’s seasonal STEAM Sundays! Families can dive into hands-on activities, themed story times, and expert-led pop-ups that celebrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math—all included with General Admission.  

Families can celebrate the season of growth with fresh, spring-inspired STEAM experiences throughout the museum. Experiment with weather science, explore aerodynamics in motion, and plant the seeds of curiosity through hands-on activities led by Thinkery educators and community partners. From rain clouds to growing gardens, Spring into STEAM invites families to discover how science, nature, and creativity come together through playful learning. 

Community Partners & Activities

Math Happens 
11:00 AM – 4:00 PM | Versatile Garden 
Build a colorful “Versatile Garden” using pattern blocks and special frames that fit together like a puzzle. As families design their own sections and connect them with others, they’ll explore patterns, shapes, and how repeating designs create beautiful tessellations. 

Women In STEM 
11:00 AM – 4:00 PM | Bunny Copters 
Create a spinning bunny copter and watch it twirl through the air. Families will experiment with simple designs and discover how aerodynamics, gravity, and motion affect how their flying bunny spins and falls. 

Texas Healthy Habits   
11:00 AM – 4:00 PM | Healthy Games  
Play interactive games that explore healthy habits for growing bodies. Families will learn about nutrition, movement, and hygiene through hands-on challenges that make caring for our bodies fun and engaging. 

Preston Labs  
11:00 AM – 4:00 PM | Neuroscience Games  
Test how your brain navigates the world. In this playful challenge, participants will briefly walk a short path without sight and try to point back to where they started. Families will discover how the brain uses balance, movement, and internal cues to understand space and direction. 

American Society of Civil Engineers 
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM | DIY Hoop Glider  
Design and build a hoop glider, then test how far it can fly. Families will experiment with aerodynamics and engineering as they compare different designs and discover what helps a glider travel farther through the air. 

Thinkery  
11:30 AM -12:30 PM | Cloud in a Jar: Rainmaker Lab   
Create your own rain cloud using water, shaving cream, and drops of colored water. As families add droplets and watch “rain” fall through the cloud, you will explore how clouds form, hold moisture, and release precipitation in the water cycle. 

2:30 PM-3:30 PM | Sprout & Grow: DIY Chia Garden   
Transform upcycled containers into mini gardens by planting chia seeds and decorating your own planter. Families will learn how plants grow, what living things need to thrive, and how small steps Ike reusing everyday materials can help care for our planet.
